This is my first blog soooo…
Honestly, NGOs are highly encouraged to look into social media marketing and use every tool social media platforms offer to reach their target audience. Their exposure on those platforms not only benefits the organization but the individuals being helped.
Being a marketing student teaches you how to connect with people in this digital age and how to use ethos to get on customers’ emotional side. So what better and easier way than social media?
Here are a couple of reasons why I believe social media is important in the NGO field.
1. It provides them with exposure.
More exposure = more awareness!
Social media allows NGOs to tell their story and give voice to NGOs. With the many NGOs erupting, it is important for people to feel and see the credibility of an NGO through its transparency, its events, its activities, and the connection they form with their viewers.
If used right, social media can tremendously increase the awareness of an NGO’s brand, which is very important for fundraising purposes.
2. Easier donation buttons
Facebook being the top lead social media platform for NGOs, makes it easier for people to donate, spread information, and connect with the NGO. According to an article I was reading on the Social Republic, Facebook allows an easier eWOM form of communication through groups.
Additionally, Instagram being the second-largest platform after Facebook, gives your NGO exposure to a younger generation, alongside the older one, especially with its newest feature: reels. Through reels, you can post a short video (up to a minute) and, it can simply go viral and reach different parts of the world with little to no effort.
For the donation features, both Instagram and Facebook allow NGOs to add a “donate” button to their profile. This feature quickens the process of donating to those who are willing to be part of a good cause. Additionally, it is way easier to redirect people to donate through those platforms than any other form of donation.

After being given the access to use the special NGO tools for your profiles on both Instagram and Facebook, you can add your Facebook donate button and your Instagram donate button
3. Share visual content
Through sharing visual content, people connect more with your NGO and feel more attached to the people’s stories than verbal communication. For an NGO’s prosperity, it is important to host interactive campaigns that include visual information. By doing so, your NGO keeps reminding its viewers of your vision and mission!
Additionally, it is easier for people to approach your NGO through visual content as their emotional side is activated, by showcasing the struggles of the less fortunate, regardless of your NGO’s mission.
4. Consistent posting
As an NGO, staying active on social media is very beneficial. After creating brand awareness, it creates brand recognition and people would always remember your NGO in times of need or giving.
As a brief of why social media is good for NGOs, we highly encourage every NGO to open social media accounts on all different platforms, as each has its non-profit features and each targets a different target audience.
This design is spectacular! You obviously know how to keep a reader entertained.
Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well,
almost…HaHa!) Great job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how
you presented it. Too cool!
